The program is funded through the state’s health department to expand family planning programs

Beginning in November, residents will have access to free over-the-counter oral birth control pills, emergency contraception, condoms and family planning resources through community partners and health centers – as long as supplies last.

Chief Medical Executive Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian says the Take Control of Your Birth Control program also offers information on how to get more supplies going forward.

“We have information on how you can get these materials covered by your private insurance. We’ve got materials on Medicaid as well as applications for something called Plan First which is a limited Medicaid benefit that covers some healthcare options including family planning resources.”

The program is funded through the state’s health department to expand family planning programs. Bagdasarian says such tools are an essential part of public health.

“These can really impact folks’ entire futures. It can impact their education decisions, their career decisions and so we want to make sure folks have as many of the resources available open to them.”

Information about the program is available at michigan.gov/takecontrol starting in November.
