“We really can’t afford to place a non-profit nontax generating children’s museum on the site it would be fiscally irresponsible.”
So instead of the Cherette Group proposal that includes a children’s museum and a splash pad. Councilwoman Karen Lowe supports Copper Rock Construction’s Chinook Pier development plan.
“They went above and beyond and demonstrated they had listened to all of the previous studies and input.”

“A space for the people of grand haven to go enhancing the connections to both the waterfront and downtown.”
Councilman Michael Fritz was the only no vote. He thinks the question should be on the ballot and the public should decide
“It is their tax dollars that’s what we should be doing instead of us up her trying to figure it out.”
In 2020 the businesses on the Chinook Pier were closed and the buildings demolished after black mold was discovered. Mayor Bob Monetza says he thinks their redevelopment decision is the right one for the future of Grand Haven.
“Hopefully this will lead to redevelopment that not only we can be proud of but those who come behind us will be proud of.”
