The Grand Haven City Council interviewed 5 candidates for the position. Cummins left to work as Saugatuck City manager

“Why am I the best candidate?”

Each candidate was asked to make their case. Bissel program manager Steve Skodack was an unsuccessful candidate for council in 2023.

“I feel like I bring a commonsense approach to all of my problem solving. I am a problem solver.”

Zeeland property tax assessor Ryan Galligan.

“I think I am uniquely qualified having spent time on the planning commission zoning board of appeals being a municipal property tax assessor.”

Stanco Metal Products manager James O’Neil.

“I think everyone should serve their country and give back and that’s pretty much my entire life from the Marine Corps, the school board, rotary.”

Jumpin Java Cafe nonprofit owner Erin Lyon.

“I truly love this town. I support it and I want to be a part of it I want to see it thrive.”

And former city council member Mike Dora.

“Please tell us why you are the best candidate for the position. Because I have done it before. I have the experience from doing it in the past, I know what it takes.”

Grand Haven mayor Bob Monetza says the successful candidate will serve at least until the November 2025 election.

“We will meet at 6 o’clock in these chambers and we will make a selection.”
