The Cherette Group includes a children’s museum in their proposal

"The challenge we have had in Grand Haven is we are a five-month town. The children’s museum they are going to come in November, and they are going to come in April."

Denny Cherette of The Cherette Group says locating the Grand Haven Children’s Museum on the Chinoook Pier will attract visitors all year.

“A hundred to a hundred twenty-five, fifty thousand people they are going to spend money in our retail shops in our restaurants.”

Greg Taylor of Copper Rock Construction has a different vision for the pier.

“A multi-use market space at one end of the site two story facility in the middle and then a stand-alone restaurant.”

The building housing small businesses on the pier was demolished in 2020 after hazardous mold was discovered. Councilman Kevin McLaughlin says they must choose what’s next wisely.

“This is a valuable piece of developmental land and I want to make sure we develop it that meets all of the needs of the community.”

Copper Rock and Cherette Group are currently the only developers offering proposals for the pier.

“Creating a space for the people of grand haven to go.” Taylor says.

“If we do it, we will do it right and we will not let you down.” Cherette states.
