Police in Ottawa County are looking for more victims or possible witnesses after a man hit a woman’s car then assaulted her when they pulled over to exchange information

“This is a concerning event because there was no connection between them. It was a random incident that occurred with a stranger approaching this female victim.”

Captain Jack Sparks says Sunday evening a 24-year-old woman from Grand Haven reported her Jeep was hit by a silver Ford Edge on southbound US -31.

She pulled into a gas station near Stanton Street in Port Shelden Township, thinking the man wanted to exchange insurance information but says he sexually assaulted her.

She fought him off and was treated for minor injuries.

Detectives tracked and arrested a 60-year-old Muskegon man Monday.

He had been on parole for a previous sex crime.

Sparks credits the female victim for quick action.

“She did everything she should have done. Women’s intuition is a powerful thing, and she noted the suspect following her from well back in Grand Haven when the incident began. She was smart enough to pull into a populated, well-lit area and also fought back and the fact she called 911 right away all helped prevent something that could have been much more tragic.”

Sparks asked anyone who may have had a similar incident to call the Ottawa Sheriff’s Office, as well as anyone who may have witnessed Sunday’s attack, particularly a person in a green pickup truck with wood side rails seen at the gas station.
