This EV initiative called “The Lake Michigan Circuit” aims to support coastal tourism

It’s called the Lake Michigan Circuit - an electric vehicle charging initiative along more than 11-hundred miles of Lake Michigan shoreline to support tourism in Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana.

The states have partnered to create a scenic route with reliable charging stations at recreational areas, hospitality businesses, and entertainment attractions.

Supporters say it will provide EV drivers a long-distance road trip free from range anxiety.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy has awarded 17 grants totaling more than $900,000 to install direct charge or fast-charging stations along the state’s west coast.

The grants include stations at Adelaide Point in Muskegon, several in Grand Haven, South Haven, and New Buffalo along with Manistee, Frankfort and Traverse City. Manistique and St. Ignace made the list as well.

Advocates say the Lake Michigan Circuit supports the state’s efforts to build out a reliable, accessible charging infrastructure and to support tourism.
