The park will be built at 680 Cesar E. Chavez Avenue Southwest.
The space will include play areas, café-style seating, a hammock grove, kiosk, and rentable shelter space. The kiosk will feature the cupola from the former St. Joseph the Worker Parish.

“The community worked so closely with the city on designing this important space to ensure that they’ve got a chance and a voice in the process of naming this important park space.”
To qualify for consideration, names should have historical, cultural, and social significance for generations to come, according to the City’s park naming policy.
After the submission period, the Parks Advisory Board will approve the top choices selected by a community stakeholder group for a public vote. In October, the City Commission will consider approval of the name with the most votes.
“We have a belief in the Parks and Recreation Department that these are not our park spaces or the city’s or the department’s park spaces, but rather the park spaces of the residents who live here, who work here, who play here, and so we thought it important for them to have a say in this naming process.”
Construction on the estimated $2 million park is expected to begin this fall and is funded through a parks millage passed by voters in 2019.
