Construction crews will break ground later this month on downtown Grand Rapids’ amphitheater project

A May 21st groundbreaking ceremony is planned for the Acrisure Amphitheater at 201 Market Avenue in downtown Grand Rapids.

Heavy machinery is already in place to begin demolition at the site.

The Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority or CAA will own and operate the riverfront venue estimated to host more than 50 ticketed performances per season and additional community events with local organizations such as the Grand Rapids symphony and Art Prize.

The CAA also approved a five-year agreement with Live Nation Worldwide, the parent company of Ticketmaster, to handle booking, promotion and operations.

The amphitheater is a critical piece of a proposed redevelopment project on about 30 acres along the Grand River that will include housing, trails and retail outlets.

Acrisure, a Grand Rapids finance company, paid $30 million to name the amphitheater which is expected to draw 300-thousand visitors a year and create 450 jobs.

It will have a seating capacity of 12,000 and is expected to open for the 2026 summer concert season.
