A Grand Rapids-based information technology firm is investing millions and creating more than 100 jobs.

Tech Defenders primary business is repairing and extending the life span of classroom mobile devices provided to students by school districts. In a news release its more clearly defines the larger operation as “providing lifecycle solutions for large scale technology deployments.”

The City of Grand Rapids recently released its 2017 economic development report. WGVU breaks down the numbers.

The City of Grand Rapids Economic Development Department reported 2017 activity for businesses utilizing City incentive programs and their benefits.

The economic development department number crunches say the programs generated $173 million in new private investment. The commitments created 835 jobs that, on average, paid a little more than $24 an hour.

By comparison 2015 and 2016 reported $200 million in new investment creating roughly 400 new jobs.

The City of Grand Rapids is reopening two if its parks this week. Call it a nearly $1 million refreshing.

Grand Rapids Campau Park is now new and improved with the addition of a splashpad and new playground. That along with renovations to the restroom facility, walking path, drinking fountain, benches bike rack, trash cans and landscaping add up to $650,000 in improvements.

Michigan is starting a major revamp of how nursing care is provided to veterans, with plans to ultimately transition from two homes in the western and far-northern regions to seven new, smaller ones spread across the state.

The initiative is billed as the most substantial change to the system since the first veterans home opened in Grand Rapids 131 years ago.

It stems from new, bipartisan state laws that officials say will lead to higher-quality care for more veterans.

Milacron DME

A global leader in plastic technology and processing is making a multi-million dollar expansion at its Greenville manufacturing facility creating new jobs.

Cincinnati-based Milacron intends to consolidate its mold technology manufacturing and fabrication operations to its Greenville facility.

Peter Smith, Milacron DME President and General Manager says the company wants to build “a world-class facility in Greenville to support our growth plans.”
