“Continental does not currently have a formal plan for this site.”
Wisconsin based Continental Properties is the new owner to the 140-acre former English Hills Country Club in Walker. Their representative, Trevor Stadler, says they specialize in multifamily projects.
“We have expressed interest in bringing a multifamily development to this parcel.”
Domo Properties of Indiana is selling English Hills. Walker planning director Paula Priebe says they lost financing for a 550-unit apartment complex during Covid.
“They say due to the pandemic construction financing has negatively impacted our ability to move forward.”
Efforts to develop the property have failed since the golf course was first sold in 2018. Continental already has apartment complexes in the Grand Rapids area on the East Beltline and Knapp Street.
“We incorporate our communities into the fabric and character of the surrounding neighborhoods.”
Steve Gilman lives in a condo alongside the golf course property. And so far he says he likes what he is hearing from the new owners.
“Town houses and things that look appropriate. So, I’m delighted to hear that.”
“Continental is excited to begin working toward a more detailed plan for this site.”
