Artists from around the state and country are painting 21 murals under the Front St. overpass for the Pleasant Peninsula Mural Festival

“Every single archway will feature a different native species to Michigan that is endangered or threatened.”

Erika Collin is co-director of what they are calling the Pleasant Peninsula Mural Festival.

“Grand Rapid's first national mural festival. We are bringing in artists from all over the country to paint."

Dustin Hunt is the founder of Muralmatics in Lansing:

“Excited to paint for this festival.”

He is one of the 21 artists selected to paint a mural:

“This is just a really special kind of mural festival that’s very unique.”

Jay from Grand Rapids is painting bees into their mural:

"I just think they are fun. It’s just awesome to get to bring some awareness to the world around us.”

Festival founder Eddie Chaffer says they are collaborating with the DNR and other groups to make sure their murals are scientifically accurate:

“The goal of the project is to make environmental education accessible to as many people as possible.”

The public is invited to a free party on Saturday to admire the finished murals and learn more about nature.
