“Pastor Rhodes was a great influence and a pillar in this community.”
Councilmember Lisa Knight on the plan to rename the corner of Henry Avenue and Logan Street “Cliffs Corner” to honor Dr. Clifton Rhodes, Junior.
“I am glad to see this. Sorry he is not here to see it but we continue to honor his legacy.”
Dr. Rhodes was the pastor at Messiah Baptist Church at the corner of Henry and Logan for 45 years before his death in 2018, and mayor Rosalynn Bliss recalls his impact on the community.
“He was truly a remarkable man loved by so many people in this community and I know he is greatly missed.”
And while commemorating his influence on the past, Messiah Baptist member Deborah Cross believes “Cliff’s Corner” may also impact the future.
“The children that will be walking past that spot. Martin Luther King School is right here and perhaps question who was this man why is this named as this and maybe they might decide seeing that he is someone they might want to emulate and become more positive in the community.”
The" Cliffs Corner" request goes to the community development committee for review.
