“This is going to be a close election in Michigan. It’s going to be a close election nationally. Michigan can make the difference. Let’s do it!”
Vermont Senator, Democrat Bernie Sanders, joined Abdul El-Sayed at a campaign stop in Grand Rapids. Hundreds turned out to hear Michigan’s democratic U.S. Senate candidate’s campaign message.
“So, we kicked off an improbable campaign to do three simple things, and you all already know what they are. We want money out of politics, money in your pocket, Medicare for all, and that campaign took us everywhere. We talked to everybody we could. Rooms of five turned into 50 turned into 500.”
El-Sayed is counting on those supporters to get out this week, asking attendees to breach what divides people to get voters to the polls.
“Grand Rapids, we understand the work in front of us. We understand that we’ve got nine days to put ourselves into our democracy. It’s not about how much time we have; it’s about how much of ourselves we will put into our time. It is about whether or not we are willing to put ourselves into the breach and to stand for each other.”
The latest numbers from polling website FiftyPlusOne shows El-Sayed with a three-point lead over Republican candidate Mike Rogers.
