“Lakeshore Habitat is partnering with Hope Network and Ladder Homes on this project.”
Dave Rozman is executive director for Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity, which assumed operational responsibility of Ladder Homes in January.
“We have skills and experience of bringing volunteers together to build homes. That’s what we’ve been doing in this community for 36 years.”
The organizations broke ground in the 300 block of South River Avenue in Holland on an affordable housing project for people experiencing mental illness or homelessness. Tim Becker is COO of Hope Network.
“This’ll probably be about a $500,000 to a $600,000 home. We want to make sure it’s a quality home that the people that living inside can be proud of.”
Residents can stay as long as they deem necessary or transition elsewhere. Ladder Homes Executive Director Rick VanTil says local donors cover the cost of utilities and rent.
“So, we’re not like market-based rent stuff. It’s all individual, based on need.”
Ladder Homes says there’s a significant need for affordable housing in the Holland neighborhood. Its goal is to have five homes with living space for four to six individuals.
