Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity and a Holland church are planning a new housing development in Holland Township

The proposed housing development is located north of the Calvary Church building on James Street where Lakeshore Habitat will build 17 affordable homes and the church would add six transitional homes in partnership with local ministries.

“Habitat Homes will be owner occupied, and we specifically work with households that earn between 30 and 80% of the area median income. Right now in Ottawa County, there's a need for about 3,000 new for sale units for that population.”

Dave Rozman is Lakeshore Habitat Executive Director.

“They work in our community but often are living paycheck to paycheck because the high cost of rents. And so, it's an opportunity for them to own a home, build some equity, and then really put roots down in our community.”

Pending approval, construction on the church property should begin in the summer of 2027.

Rozman says Habitat is focusing on building similar partnerships and has two other donated properties in pre-development now.

“The community as a whole, especially in West Michigan, is seeing the need for housing and it’s causing them to ask, okay, how can I help? And there's a lot of churches that have a lot of property. So it's a great resource they can use to the betterment of the community. “
