“This is money that allows us to directly address all kinds of different conservation issues.”

“From our traditional mission of working on soil conservation that comes out of the Dust Bowl era, to water quality and conservation, doing things like lake management plans, watershed management plans, and addressing invasive species.”
Over the past decade, the district has grown from a part-time administrator and one agricultural technician to seven staff members supporting conservation programs throughout the county.
“Other things we would like to do include buying some farm equipment for rental in order to help people get started or for those people who are more hobby farmers who really can’t justify buying some of the equipment that’s necessary to do things.”
The millage renewal proposal would annually levy 0.0943 cents per $1,000 of taxable property from 2027 through 2032. If passed, it’s expected to generate $790,000 within the first year, or roughly a third of the district’s budget.
