Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer is announcing the construction of more than 600 affordable rental units across the state, and some of those are coming to West Michigan

Nearly $19 million in federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits are being awarded to the Michigan State Housing Development Authority supporting the creation of 603 new affordable housing units across 13 developments in nine Michigan communities.

In Grand Rapids, the 848 Division development is receiving over $1.4 million creating 46 one- and two-bedroom units for households earning up to 60% or area median income, or AMI. The project will create 13 permanent jobs.

The Allegan Terrace development in Allegan is also receiving over $1.4 million creating 44 one- and two-bedroom units for households earning 30%, 40% and 80% AMI. The project will create 66 temporary jobs.

And another Grand Rapids project known as Vision is receiving over $1.6 million creating 49 units for households earning between 50% and 80% AMI. Thirty-eight of those senior housing units will receive rental assistance and create 125 temporary jobs.
