State revenue in Michigan this year is up compared to projections.
The welcome news comes from the non-partisan House and Senate Fiscal Agencies. In all, Michigan brought in a little over $3-billion last month between taxes, fines, and the lottery.
The largest chunk of that money came from sales, use, and excise taxes on things like tobacco and liquor. That’s even as revenue from those categories was down compared to this point in the previous fiscal year.
Online gaming, on the other hand, is up by over a quarter in the fiscal year to date.
If revenue continues to outpace projections, Michigan might have some extra money to work with as it faces some tough budget years ahead.
