Canadian officials had their own party Friday for the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge linking Detroit to Windsor, Ontario.
The Trump Administration nixed a ribbon cutting ceremony last month and then delayed the opening of the span.
With the President threatening new tariffs this week, Canadian officials formally dedicated the bridge without American involvement.
However, Ontario Premier Doug Ford is treating the soured relations between to two allies as just a bump in the road:
“I know Canadians love Americans, and I know Americans love Canadians, and that bond will last for another over 200years.”
The bridge will open to traffic Monday afternoon with the pedestrian and biking pathway opening in early August.
The new bridge should aid the economy in both countries, Canadian officials say over $270M in trade moves by truck across the border with Detroit each day.
