The Lowell Township Planning Commission meeting was cancelled when the crowd reached and surpassed maximum capacity, overflowing into the township hall lobby. The fire marshal considered it a safety issue.
The public meeting was scheduled for discussing rezoning a portion of the Covenant Business Park which would allow for a proposed data warehousing center.
The project has raised public discussion with some residents supporting it for the jobs and tax benefits while others are concerned about effects on the local water system and environment.
Township leaders said the high turnout and limited space required a change of venue or risked violating the Open Meetings Act.
Plans are to reschedule the meeting for January at Lowell High School.
