DTE Electric is asking regulators to fast track the approval of special contracts for it to power the data center’s massive energy needs.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says the project needs to go through a much longer review first to ensure customers won’t see their energy rates go up.
“This is just the regular process and AI companies should be no different than any other energy-related projects.”
But Democratic state Representative Joey Andrews, who sponsored pro-data center policies, says the data center would actually keep electric costs down.
“We set our laws up to make sure that data centers are actually subsidizing the grid in Michigan and subsidizing residential customers.”
DTE is asking for the contract approvals by the end of the week.
