A bill to strengthen Michigan’s economic ties to Ireland could see a state Senate vote within the next couple weeks

The bill would create a “Michigan-Ireland Trade Commission” to build connections with Irish businesses and government officials.

Democratic state Senator Sean McCann says the commission’s work would focus on making Michigan a more welcoming state for Irish investment.

“You plow the field and you plant the seeds, and then hopefully there's a harvest to reap that keeps going on a regular basis.”

Earlier this year, the Governor went on an economic development trip to Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Another bill going through the state Senate would create a similar trade commission for Africa and the Caribbean.
