The Grand Rapids Brownfield Redevelopment Authority approved a 30-year plan worth nearly $3 million in tax increment financing reimbursements for phase three of Habitat for Humanity of Kent County’s Pleasant Hills affordable housing project in the city’s Roosevelt Park neighborhood.
“So, we were here about a year ago for phase one and two which is actively under construction.”
Andrew Claucherty is vice president of neighborhood revitalization for Habitat Kent. He spoke to the brownfield authority about phase three of the project.
“So, we have seven of the 27 townhomes that we’re building as part of that project that are close to being done in framing and will start the other side of that project with 20 units either early next spring or summer.”
Sixteen of the units would be reserved for buyers earning up to 80% of the area median income, while 11 would be for buyers earning up to 120% of AMI.
“We are really excited about this project. This feels really innovative for Habitat Kent and for Grand Rapids to provide this type of housing product in a for sale, affordable way, and so we’re really appreciative of you all and your support of this project.”
The board also approved a $250,000 grant from the Local Brownfield Revolving Fund supporting down payment assistance for potential condominium buyers.
