More than 4 million travelers are expected to pass through the Gerald R Ford International Airport this year, similar to 2024.
Communications and Events Associate Heidi Groenboom says a large portion is during the roughly twelve days of spring break.
“We're seeing over 170,000 passengers through our airport so that's similar to last year 2024, which was a record-breaking year for us.”
Where are all those passengers going?
“Obviously, Florida is the top destination especially Orlando, Punta Gorda, Clearwater but then we're also seeing more out west so like Las Vegas and Phoenix, so everyone wants that warm weather before our Michigan summer hits.”
With the potential of severe weather across much of the country this year, Groenboom has some advice.
“Our main recommendations for that is to check with your airline to stay updated on your flight departure times. Any information regarding your luggage we direct you to your airline so either their website, their app or the gate agent too if you're there. And then also we always recommend arriving two hours ahead of your scheduled departure time just so you can you know find a parking spot check your bag get through security and maybe grab a coffee or a bite to eat before you fly out.”
The peak departure day is expected to be Saturday, April 5th, with the busiest return day for passengers anticipated for Saturday, April 12th.
