U.S. Congresswoman Hillary Scholten will host two in-person town hall meetings Thursday evening at 6:30 in Grand Rapids and Friday at noon in Grand Haven. According to the Grand Rapids democrats’ team, both events have reached capacity with constituents placed on a waiting list.
This comes as many Republican representatives are choosing to hold virtual or telephone town halls, a result of activists and constituents critical of President Trump and Department of Government Efficiency budget cuts and government layoffs.
U.S. Representative Bill Huizenga held two telephone town halls this month, saying in-person meetings were becoming unproductive. The Zeeland Republican moved to an automated phone system last week for his Holland, Portage and Washington, D.C. offices due to “a significant increase in overall call volume as well as threats against both our staff and the Congressman.”
Republican State Senator Mark Huizenga held an in-person town hall last week in Rockford.
Scholten’s town halls will be streamed live on her Facebook page.
