U.S. Representative Hillary Scholten testified before the Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government, arguing for the passage of the CLEAR Act. CLEAR stands for Consistent Legal Expectations and Access to Records. The Grand Rapids democrat says temporary organizations like DOGE should be subject to the Freedom of Information Act. Currently, DOGE does not need to comply with FOIA requests from the public.

President Trump created DOGE through an executive order which allow the president to form temporary organizations. It’s headed by his top campaign donor and billionaire, Elon Musk. DOGE is tasked with finding and eliminating government waste and fraud.
“We’re not even telling DOGE to even stop its actions. Just be accountable. Who can disagree with that?”
If passed, DOGE records would be made retroactively public.
