Park Township Supervisor Steve Spoelhof posted a letter to its website explaining why planning for a new community center has been stopped.
“As you may know, we are facing a time of significant change, and the effects of recent shifts at the federal, state, and county levels are beginning to ripple through Park Township.”
The letter went on to read that the township has seen “a slight decline in building permits and a deceleration in large-scale development projects, both of which have a direct effect on our long-term property tax revenue.”
Other issues cited included staffing and uncertainty township residents would approve a millage dedicated to funding construction.
The original community center built in 1937 and located on the Ottawa County Fairgrounds was destroyed by a fire in July 2022.
No timeline was given on when the new center project would start back up.
