Food trucks that are licensed by the county or state and follow the rules of specific locations can operate within the township.

During last week’s Board of Trustee’s meeting, Park Township unanimously approved the new ordinance, allowing food trucks to operate within the township, which is near Holland.

This is the first time food trucks have ever been allowed in Park Township.

“We’ve had a general expressions of interest from people, both from people who would like to bring their food trucks into Park Township, and those who would like to have a few more dining options since we don’t have a lot of restaurants.”

Under the new ordinance, food trucks that are licensed by the county or state and follow the rules of specific locations can operate within the township.

“So we’re mainly just looking at the locational aspects of and to say, ‘You do have to have those appropriate licenses and permits.’”

Businesses can host food trucks on private property if the property has a commercial building on site. Places like schools, churches and parks can host up to four food trucks for up to three days a year, or up to 14 days a year with a permit.

Residents can host a food truck at their home for private events for up to three non-consecutive days a year, as well as at community events like neighborhood garage sales and block parties.

The ordinance also allows for the possibility of a future permanent or semi-permanent food truck court.
