Muskegon planning free shuttle service to the beach this summer

Visit Muskegon

Profits from higher parking prices would be used to pay for them

“I am certainly excited to see this move forward.”

When he voted for higher beach parking fees last year Muskegon mayor Ken Johnson suggested the city provide a shuttle to help visitors avoid the increase, and that’s now the plan.

“With the increased paid parking we are able to fund it.”

Two shuttles are planned. One would transport passengers between Harbor Towne Beach and Kruse Park. The other would go from the Muskegon Transit Center to Pere Marquette Beach, with a stop in Lakeside.

“Rotate through about 2 to 3 times per hour at each stop.”

City manager Jonathan Seyferth says the shuttles would run Friday Saturday and Sunday.

“The hours would be Friday and Saturday 11 to 8 and Sunday 11 to 6.”

The estimated cost to the city for the two beach shuttles is 39 thousand five hundred dollars…and for the passengers.

“The cost to the riders would be free.”

The shuttle service still requires final approval from the city commission. Commissioner Willie German is a supporter.

“I think this is good for the community to able to have reliable transportation to go out to the beach just enjoy the lakefront this is something I support.”
