“It’s really an opportunity for Kids’ Food Basket to share with the community the deep importance of healthy food access for all of our children and families.”
Bridget Clark Whitney is KFB’s President and Founding CEO. She says federal government funding freezes are affecting not only their organization, but many others who provide meals to families living with food insecurity.
“We are all working to navigate around this right now.”
It comes at a time when Whitney says families are struggling to keep up with rising grocery bills.
“In 2023, grocery inflation went up by over 14%, and then in 2024, an additional 11%.”
Creating a greater need for KFB’s free school lunch service and Sack Suppers - evening meals kids can take home from school.
“We’re responding to many requests from schools and superintendents and principals and parents and teachers who are asking us to continue to scale our work and sometimes that means more meals to a certain school, sometimes that means more schools added to our wait list.”
