Allegiant Air Flight 2206 had taken off from Gerald R. Ford International Airport just before 5 p.m. Sunday headed for Orlando, Florida.
About half an hour later, a crew member noticed a “burning smell” in the plane’s cabin.
The captain decided to turn back to get the plane checked “out of an abundance of caution and declared an emergency which is standard procedure.
The plane was rerouted back to Ford Airport and landed safely.
The Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting team and mutual aid partners responded to make sure plane and passengers were all right.
No injuries were reported.
Its unclear what caused the burning smell.
A replacement plane was sent to fly passengers to Orlando.
An Allegiant spokesperson says each passenger received a $12 food voucher and a $50 travel voucher.
