Peak days for Thanksgiving holiday travel started Friday and run through Monday with the largest volume of travelers heading out Wednesday and the busiest return day Sunday, December 1st.
Heidi Groenboom, Communications and Events Associate for the Gerald R. Ford International Airport says:
”We’re expecting a total of over 148,000 passengers to go through and come back.”
13,000 passengers on Wednesday alone so she stresses its important to get to the airport two hours before a flight departs and advises doublechecking details ahead of time.
“We recommend going to your individual airline for questions on luggage or luggage size since different airlines have different size restrictions and such.”
When it comes to what can be brought through security, Groenboom says TSA.org is a great resource.
“They’ve kind of coined the phrase, ‘if you can spill it, spray it or spread it, it should go in a checked bag’ if it’s over those 3.4 ounces.”
Travelers from the Grand Rapids airport are mostly heading somewhere warm with top destinations in Florida, Arizona, Texas followed by Denver and Philadelphia.
