Located at the beginning of Concourse A, the Sensory Room provides a therapeutic setting designed to minimize overstimulation and provide a calm, inclusive environment for people of all ages with cognitive or development disabilities.
“Maybe they need to relax for a little bit or maybe they need some stimulation that would put them at ease prior to flying or maybe they’d like to experience what it would be like getting on or off an aircraft prior to actually doing it, and this room provides all of those.”
Engineering Manager Clint Nemeth says the space is divided into four zones to address various needs and includes an activity wall, soft playing area, and relaxation space. There’s also a simulated jet way and airplane interior anyone nervous about flying can visit to reduce anxiety sometimes caused by air travel.
“It’s a fun project to work on because we do see the benefit. It’s one of those you want to be able to tell this story so we’re really passionate about it.”
The Sensory Room is now open to travelers and can be accessed through a call button next to the door.
