Wednesday, Plainfield Township Board of Trustees members along with the Township’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and other stakeholders held a groundbreaking ceremony for the start of a nearly $2 million project.
The Grand Rogue revitalization project will make the 66-acre park more accessible with paved ADA compliant walkways, watercraft launches and docks and support for a clean watershed with rain gardens and natural shoreline restoration.
Another phase of the project includes constructing two community pavilions, installing a new playground and adding picnic facilities.
Funding for the project comes from the Township’s general fund and two Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grants totaling $600,000.
Grand Rogue Park, located on West River Drive between Jupiter and Northland drives, opened to the public in October 2020, about two years after the Township purchased the former Rogue River Campground from the Briggs family.
Work on park upgrades began last month and is expected to be complete in June 2025.
