$95,500 went to 25 projects designed to bring community together, promote a deeper sense of belonging among neighbors, and celebrate New Americans in recognition of Welcoming Week in Grand Rapids.
Local resident leaders submitted projects to the city’s Neighborhood Match Fund which focuses on promoting social justice and inclusion.
This round of funds support programs such as the “I Matter We Matter” project offering mental health support groups in the black and brown community, “A Helping Hand” organization that provides packages of essentials to unhoused people, and the “Aim to Inspire” end of summer picnic for young people in the Special Needs community to share a meal with friends and family and entertainment from their peers.
In December, the city will accept submissions for its next round of funding for projects taking place next March through August.
More information and the full list of recipients can be found on the City of Grand Rapids’ website under Neighborhood Match Funds.
