The Michigan Healthy Climate Corps develops a network of climate professionals committed to a sustainable future who are placed with hosts in local governments, agencies, universities and non-profits to help guide resources in clean energy, environmental justice, restoration, transit and more.
340 “Overall, every state is going to move to have clean energy sources, but Michigan is one of the top 14, I believe, in the states that are making it happen now.”
Jessica Austin is Climate Solutions Associate, one of the first cohort which was placed with hosts in March for one year. Austin works with WMEAC, the West Michigan Environmental Action Council in Grand Rapids.
228 “We give out educational resources to communities to learn about climate change, what is climate change and how it’s going to affect them in the future.”
In addition to earning a stipend for living expenses, members benefit from extensive networking, training and professional experience. Austin says its like taking a master class.
450 “It feels like a college course but you’re getting paid and you’re making an impact and you’re helping Michigan become one of the top energy efficient states.”
The Corps is accepting applications through September 8th for 31 positions statewide.
Members will be selected in October and placed with hosts for the next year starting mid-November.
