Developer planning town homes in space thought to be part of Baldwin Park

Baldwin Park at the corner of Lake Drive and Fulton St. in Grand Rapids is smaller than neighbors might think

“You all might be familiar with this site as Baldwin Park. It looks like the park is this entire green space.”

But city planner Elizabeth Zeller says Baldwin Park is only the triangle right at the intersection of Fulton Street and Lake Drive.

“The park is just a small area at the corner.”

And Construction Simplified president Brent Gibson says his company is planning 8 townhouses in 4 buildings on the area behind the park.

“We feel it’s the right product, the right design to fit into the neighborhood.”

Andrew Kriley with Strong Towns Grand Rapids likes the project.

“It will be really good to see something start to be developed on this difficult property.”

But at least one neighbor:

“I’m John, I live right across the street.”

Says residents use the space as a park.

“While the park is technically just that triangle towards the fork, no one views that as not part of the park.”

The developer hopes to have the town homes ready for occupancy next year.

“We spent a lot of time to make this work.”
