“This is a real opportunity for the community to be involved in directing what their city will look like 5 years to 20 years from now.”
Ionia’s master plan is an official document setting long-range goals and policies shaping future land use. City Manager Precia Garland says this new plan will address community needs informed by public input through a variety of means, including an online survey.
“In addition to the survey, we’ve got several meetings coming up in which people can participate and, again, provide us with thoughts about the future development of the city and what it should look like.”
The city recently conducted a housing study and discovered that a mix of housing at all price points is important to the community at large, from apartments and condos to single-family homes and senior housing.
“Is there a preference for single-family detached, row houses, duplexes, apartment complexes? We’ll ask for additional ideas in terms of what does that look like in the future. What is the preference?”
The online survey is available until August 15th. Feedback results will be presented at a community forum on September 23rd, with a public presentation of the final master plan set for early spring of 2025.
