GR Planning Commission seeks public input on master plan

Downtown Grand Rapids, MI
The Right Place
Downtown Grand Rapids, MI

The Bridge to Our Future Campaign began its second phase Tuesday evening with the first of three planned events.

The original Community Master Plan, or CMP, was launched back in 1963, updated in 2002, and again in 2020 as the Bridge to Our Future campaign, with an emphasis on learning how Grand Rapids could become more accessible to current and incoming residents over the next 20 years.

Back in mid-October, Sarah Bongiorno with Planning Next said it’s all about making sure everyone has a voice:

“Our community connectors and neighborhood organizations will be hosting what we’re calling ‘Community Conversations.’ Again, they are boots on the ground kind of going out in the community going and making sure those voices that don’t come out to our larger events are being heard.”

Topics covered at these events include housing, economic development and transportation, as well as going over public input that’s been collected so far.

“We’re still continuing to analyze and understand all the inputs, a lot of input is good input from Round 2 so that we can start to write the recommendations for the plans.”

Each meeting will allow an opportunity for the public to give feedback on current plans.

The public is welcome to attend Wednesday’s CMP event at the Center for Community Transformation from 5 to 7 PM, as well as Thursday’s event also from 5 to 7 PM at the Leslie E. Tassell M-TEC Center at GRCC.
