Republican Senator Ruth Johnson says that’s too far away.
“This is a problem the Legislature should not drag their feet on.”
Democratic Senator Dayna Polehanki says testing companies and schools need more time to develop screening tools and get teachers trained.
“Schools are a big ship that turns slowly. So it’s only fair to give these school districts that additional time.”
The bills are now heading for the Michigan House.
