Rogers had been courting Trump’s endorsement throughout his campaign by being highly complimentary toward the embattled ex-president.
Though Trump’s endorsement was unlikely to go anywhere else, with former Congressmen Peter Meijer and Justin Amash both vying for the nomination. Both of them voted to impeach Trump during their short stints in the U.S. House.
On the Democratic side, Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin remains the favorite, having outraised her opponents by millions.
The U.S. Senate seat is open due to Debbie Stabenow’s impending retirement.
Michigan hasn’t elected a Republican Senator in 30 years.
