Detroit man charged with West Michigan thefts

A Detroit man has been charged with stealing a car and multiple thefts in West Michigan

On the evening of February 14th, a Kent County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Gaines Township Meijer. After the driver returned to the vehicle, he was detained by deputies. It was discovered that the vehicle had been stolen from Waterford Township.

Through the investigation, it was found that the suspect had committed multiple thefts from retail stores in both Grand Rapids Township and Lansing.

The 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with possessing a stolen vehicle. Additional charges are being sought in regard to additional thefts. In total, it is believed the man stole upwards of $550 dollars’ worth of items.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate stolen car complaints due to those vehicles being used in other crimes throughout West Michigan.
