Grand Rapids Public Museum to begin $50 Million Expansion

Grand Rapids Public Museum

The renovation is scheduled to be finished in 2026.

The Grand Rapids Public Museum is one of the city’s oldest institutions.

“The oldest museum in the state of Michigan, the second largest. We are owned by the city of Grand Rapids.”

And after nearly 30 years at its current location downtown on the Grand River, President Dale Robertson says the museum is due for an update. and the city commission is approving funds for the project.

“This will allow for the beginning of an expansion of the Grand Rapids Public Museum because of community demand and necessity.”

The 50-million-dollar renovation will provide easy barrier free access to the river, a separate entrance to the carousel, more capacity for students and exhibit upgrades

“I think the great think about this, it will have an impact far beyond the city borders to the entire region.”

If all goes according to schedule Robertson says the renovation will be finished in 2026.

“What will be a generational impact project.”
