GRPD: arrests made after two rob bank, flee in getaway car

Tuesday's holdup takes place in broad daylight

Police say two men are in custody after robbing a Grand Rapids bank Tuesday afternoon. WGVU's The bank robbery took place Tuesday afternoon as Grand Rapids Police officers responded to reports of a holdup at the Lake Michigan Credit Union on Lake Michigan Drive.

According to the Grand Rapids Police Department, one suspect entered the building and handed a note to the teller, indicating that he had a gun, and to hand over the cash. Police say the suspect then fled in a getaway car and seemingly got away at first.

However, the GRPD says that with the the assistance of the Walker Police Department, the two would-be bank robbers were located around 6:30 that evening in the cities northwest side.

Police descended upon the two men and they were taken into custody without any gunfire and without incident. They are currently being held at the Kent County Sheriff's office.

 According to police, the GRPD and FBI are continuing to investigate.
