Environmentalists say groundwater treatment systems will help prevent PFAS from spreading into the Clarks Marsh area and the Au Sable River near the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda on the shores of Lake Huron.

The systems, which were announced by the Department of Defense on Thursday, will “expedite the cleanup” of PFAS releases near the base that's located in Oscoda near Lake Huron. PFAS chemicals are a group of compounds that are widespread, dangerous and expensive to remove from water.
