WGVU Vote of Confidence previews U.S. House race in Michigan's 4th Congressional District

U.S. Congressman Bill Huizenga has served eight terms representing his district. The Republican will face Democratic challenger Sean McCann in Michigan’s 4th U.S. House District.

Incumbent U.S. Representative Bill Huizenga has led the House Financial Services Committee and serves as Chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. The Zeeland Republican says his top priorities are reducing the cost of living by calling for a gas tax holiday, lowering the cost of prescription drugs and increasing housing. Secondly, Huizenga would protect the Michigan economy.

“That is allowing for job growth to happen. The Working Families Tax cut did that for small businesses in addition to saving the average Michigan family $3,100, it put a moratorium on taxes on overtime, taxes on tips, taxes on Social Security for seniors.”

Huizenga says he wants to make government work for the people.

Democrat Sean McCann is State Senator in Michigan’s 19th district. He previously served as a Kalamazoo City Commissioner. His top priority is bringing down everyday costs for Michigan families by ending tariffs and overseas wars that are raising prices.

“Secondly, our healthcare system is broken. It needs fixing. No one should have to ration lifesaving medication or decide between paying their medical bills or putting food on the table. I’ll work to expand healthcare access and ensure that healthcare is affordable and accessible.

Lastly, support a ban on Congressional stock trading and remove dark special interest money from politics.

Green Party candidate Shafina Che Barnett was invited to participate.
