Michigan’s 84th House district covers portions of Grand Rapids, Grandville and Walker. Its seat is open after representative Democrat Carol Glanville decided to run for Michigan State Senate.

Democrat Khristian Silvis served as a U.S. Army combat medic in Afghanistan. She would become Director of Military Affairs in New York and was U.S. Representative Hillary Scholten’s District Director. Silvis says the 84th House district’s top priorities are increasing access to healthcare and bringing down costs, strengthening public education and tackling affordability.

“We need to help build and expand our middle class by bringing more economic opportunities throughout the region bringing higher paying jobs and raising wages so that every family has the chance to succeed.”

Republican Drew Jake Robbins is a U.S. Army Reservist who graduated top of his class as the valedictorian and Distinguished Honors Graduate. In 2022 he was elected to the Grand Rapids City Commission where he chaired Community Development and Fiscal Communities and later served as Commission President. His top priority is also affordability.

“We have to really take a step back and focus on exactly why everything has become so expensive? I think that begins with property tax reform, cutting our state’s income tax to become more competitive with our peer neighbors right here in the Midwest.”

Robbins other priorities include investing in public safety resources. Finally, improving educational outcomes.
