Late Friday crews closed down Northland Drive between Cannonsburg/West River Drive and Belding Road to install a new pedestrian tunnel under the seven-lane stretch .
Working around the clock, crews dug a 60-foot trench, installed 19 concrete arches, laid piping and repaved the road – finishing in just four and a half days instead of the eight or nine anticipated.
The new tunnel safely connects the South Rogue River Trail to the expanding Grand River Greenway - a regional trail system that will eventually stretch from Lowell to Lake Michigan.
