UNIFOR, the union that represents Canadian autoworkers – hit a roadblock in recent negotiations after Stellantis announced it's looking to sell a Jeep plant outside Toronto to an armored car company.
John D’Agnolo is the president of Unifor Local 200 in Windsor and a member of the bargaining unit. He says U.S. tariffs are to blame.
“The challenge with these tariffs and not knowing what you're going to get from day to day, companies are not going to invest in new programs.”
In a letter to employees this week, Stellantis acknowledged changes to “market and trade” conditions as the reason they’re looking to sell the factory.
UNIFOR says it could be on track to strike within the next few weeks. The union has already ratified deals with Ford and General Motors.
