“Because it’s like my first time on VR. I see something called Bank of America and then right now I’m on like a roller coaster and this thing going up right now.”
Tyrease Dean Lewis is a 6th grader at Godwin Heights Middle School. He joined over 2,500 students at the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse for Tech Week Grand Rapids’ Tech Showcase. The event gives grade-school students an opportunity to learn about and use technology, including 3-D printers, robotics, and virtual reality.
“For the kids we’re doing financial literacy - financial wellness – in that kind of metaverse experience. So, we have Bank of America teammates from North Carolina, Jacksonville, Florida, Arizona, and Maryland who are on the other side of these headsets.”
Bank of America Grand Rapids President Paul Keifer explains introducing students to financial skills at a young age through tech helps prepare them for future financial wellness.
“We want them to be able to save for a goal. We want them to be able to build a budget, and so we want to teach them as early as possible.”
Tech Week runs through September 19th.
